Turning the Tankard Lounge into a Party!
When the announcement was made that the Ingersoll Curling Club would be hosting the 2015 Tankard the organizing committee knew they wanted to do something special.
This small town club set out to prove that they could create an event as professional and memorable as any club in Ontario.
Everyone knows that curlers play hard both on and off the ice. Organizers figured that if they could create an onsite lounge for players, volunteers and fans with good entertainment, good food and drink they could not only bring the curling community closer together throughout the weeklong event but they could also make money.
The concept was simple. Take the Dorchester Arena (Flight Exec Centre) gymnasium typically used for basketball, volleyball and pickle ball and turn it into a pub for a few hundred people. Large screens showing live and earlier games, a full sound system for live bands every night as well as room and stage lighting to help set the mood.
Horizon staff worked with the organizing committee to meet the needs of over a dozen bands, Rogers Communications and the facility staff, all while keeping to a moderate budget.
The result was a great room for everyone to relax, make some new friends, enjoy each other’s company, a drink and a band or two.
